New Yarn Office!

I had so much fun making this wall a reality. I used to keep my yarn in plastic totes stacked a mile high in this office. I was hard for me to find anything and when I wanted to get something out of a tote it just so happened to be on the bottom of the stack. So something had to give. I got the Cubes from Walmart a few months ago in the clearance aisle. They are Mainstays brand and they were $10 for a set of 4. I knew they were not holding heavy college books or taking a beating in my garage so I didn’t mind that they were flimsy and pop together. I had a plan and they fit perfectly! My husband also bought wood and made custom cubbies on the bottom to provide a stable bottom and storage for my shipping supplies! He painted them black to blend in. Him building those was the only way to make them go all the way to the ceiling, and I never turn down extra storage! This project required a lot of planning and time. These cubes are really flimsy but my wonderful husband anchored them to the walls and used zip ties for all the corners. If you are not ready to do that, then I would strongly recommend you use something else because it will fall over and most likely come apart while you are trying to stuff them with yarn. I have complete trust in my husband so I kept the futon under it and plan to sit there while I work. This is also our guest bedroom and this Christmas my brother and sister in law will be sleeping with this above their heads. This will be a dream come true for my sister in law as she was the one who taught me how to knit about 4 yrs ago.

Pumpkin and Ghost

I was sitting in the living room last weekend making owls and Cameron told me he thinks I should make a pumpkin. I always jump at the chance to make new things. I went and got some orange yarn and started! It took me about an hour and the pumpkin was done! It would have taken less time if I had a pattern but I think I have the best ideas when they just come to me off the top of my head. I gave it to Cam and said how about I make you a ghost too? He was all for it! YES!!! I get to make two new things! It took a little longer with the ghost but they are both done, complete with scary faces and all. I guess when you’re a 10 year old boy you like scary faces and not so much friendly smiles anymore :)

Rug made from old yarn.

Lucky Approved

Cameron Approved

Hank, Cameron, and Lucky

Earlier this year I inherited a few boxes and bags of old yarn. Some of it was so old I had never heard of the brand before. I could actually see how yarn has progressed over the years, from scratchy to soft. I didn’t have a clue at the time what I was going to do with it but then I was thinking “Rug”. If it’s scratchy then I won’t mind as much to walk on it, and for now it’s going to be in the basement anyways. So I got my Q hook and decided that I would use 6 strands of yarn at the same time and maybe that will make it softer as well. I didn’t have a pattern just some yarn and a hook. My first thought was, “this is going to be my big ugly rug”. I had some many different shades of all these colors and I had no idea where to start. I had a lot of off white/cream and grey so I decided that I would use those colors throughout the entire rug and I think that is one of the reasons it all came together. Good luck if you try this on your own! This rug is now one of my favorite pieces J
